Hi, i need some advice on applying for a partner visa. I'm currently on a 417 visa and I'm in my second year, it ends next May. My partner is Australian and we have been together 6 months now and living together for nearly 3 months. What do we need to do first and how early do i need to apply for it before my 417 visa ends?

You should then start gathering evidence for your application. There is a lot that goes into applying for this visa, and often takes months and months of work. In our situation, we planned to apply in August 2017 but with all the work that went into it and the research we had to do (as well as live our every day lives) we didn't end up applying until February 2018.

If he is just your 'partner' and you have only lived together for three months you need to register as defacto ASAP
