Hi folks,
I own a tourist visa and at the end of December I want to go to visit my girlfriend in Australia.
UnfortunatIy I lost the passport linked to my visa and I need to update my visa with the number of the new one. In this case I can't do it online from my ImmiAccount page and I need to send the paper 929 to the Australian Embassy in Berlin (the italian visas are released over there).
Does anybody know the processing time of this operation? I don't have so much time and I don't want to waste my money for the flight if I'm not sure that my visa has been updated.

Thank you

They're pretty accommodating.

I had to update mine whilst I was in Australia (I got a new British passport).

When I got to the airport to check in, the lady couldn't find my visa attached to my new passport so she called them and they updated it over the phone with her.

Turns out that they had sent my application form 929 back to me as they needed more information but I didn't receive it in time.

I'd recommend sending it off as soon as you can and then maybe call them to check before you're due to fly out.

I just called the Australian Embassy in London and they told me that with my visa (e-visitor 651) instead of updating my passport I can directly apply for a new e-visitor visa with my new passport. So my new visa will delete the old one. This information sounds a bit weird to me, is there anyone who have tried this procedure before?

In theory it works, however - You could be refused especially if you've had a couple of visas already. Why apply for and pay for a new visa when you have one that meets the requirements you need it for.

Get them to update your passport number, don't take advice from immigration, they get it wrong, a lot.

You're perfectly right, but I want to reach my girlfriend by the end of the year; in order to update my passport number I have to send all the documents by post to Berlin (Italian visas are processed in Germany) and wait for the update. Maybe this operation will last a couple of weeks and in all this time flight prices are rising up.
Making a new e-651 visa is free and it's processed in just a few days, so it looks like the best option, or that's what I think
