Hi everyone, i'm a kiwi living in oz for the last 6 years. I'm seeking permenant residency or citizenship here but the answers I'm getting from the help centre aren't helping! I've been working the past 5 years
for a big company, and can't figure out why things are so hard! Can anyone offer some advice please...

Even though Kiwis have reciprocal residency and work rights with Australia as Australians do with Kiwiland, the residency is still of temporary classification.
You will have to be eligible for a permanent residency visa and apply for one and then citizenship can follow.

Wanderer, thank you for your reply.
I am attempting to apply for Permenant Residency, and am wondering if my job falls under the "General migration", option 6. Have been through the list of skilled positions and believe my current role falls under a couple of categories. Who would be the best person to seek advice from, an independent advisor, or the Immigration department? If you reccommend an independent advisor are there contact details you could leave with your reply.

Many thanks for your time and reply,

James

Immi are not there to be advisors though you could say they do it in a defacto sense with having relevant information on their web site and so before you necessarly head off to see an agent it is easy enough to check the basics of eligibility against the various visas.
What's New? Recent Changes in General Skilled Migration has latest advice including what the new skilled list is and also occupations for ENSOL and if you have a skilled occupation it may even be possible for your employer to sponsor you.
There are many agents about you can find with a search and if that is what you're thinking of doing, why not first develop some knowledge yourself from the Immi site so you'll have an idea of what in particular you'll be looking for help on and then you can test various agents with a few preliminary questions to get a feel of how they may perform.

Because you have been employed by the same employer for longer than 24 months in Australia, if your occupation is on the list for Employer Nomination, you may be eligible to apply for Permanent Residency under the Employer Nomination Scheme.

You may also have other options but this appears the most straight forward based on the little information you have provided.
