Hi all,

I am currently on visa subclass 574 right now and it doesn't expire until 2019, but I have already submitted my thesis and expecting to receive the completion letter within the next 2 months (May or June 2017).

I heard that the visa will expire within 4 weeks after I completed my PhD, but I couldn't seem to find any information on this:(. Could anyone clarify this for me please? I need to know how much time I have to get apply for state nomination.

Thank you so much for your time and help!:D

Your university may contact the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) to let them know that you have finished your course and have had your thesis marked. It's best to contact your university to ask whether they will do this or not. If they do this, DIBP may cancel your visa earlier than the original expiry date.

I would suggest that you apply for a Temporary Student Graduate Visa (485) once your PhD has been accepted and approved and your have been awarded your PhD. This is a 4-year temporary visa with full work rights. You can then work on your PR application without any hassle or deadlines to worry about.
