Hi, my partner and I have been together for 4 years (I'm British, he's Australian) and our Prospective Marriage Visa (300) was granted in July. I'm going to be arriving in Australia in November.

We had tentatively listed our wedding date as 16th February but have now decided to get married in Thailand at the end of January. We have everything booked and 35 guests attending from the UK and Australia.

Should I change my NOIM? Is there a form to fill out to notify immigration of our change of plans? Do we have to do that? We'd really like to have a legal ceremony there but if it's going to mess everything up then we'll have to have the legal bit done in Australia with our actual wedding celebration in Thailand.

Also, this probably sounds a bit silly but when I arrive in Australia in November, how do I fill out the landing card? As a temporary visitor or someone migrating permanently? Our intention is to apply for the partner visa as normal once we're married but obviously our visa is only valid for 9 months and I just want to make sure I'm doing everything properly so I don't mess it up.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice!

All that matters is that you marry legally and apply for the 820/801 within the validity of the 300.

You'd answer as a returning resident. I screwed up and put temporary when on my 300 and the border officer wasn't pleased to have to sit there and wait while I corrected it.

Thank you for your help!

So I don't really need to update anything on my immi account, as long as we get married and apply for the partner visa within the validity of our PMV?

And on my first arrival into Australia I fill out the landing card as a returning resident? Or is that for when I'm back in Australia after the wedding in Thailand? Just checking I've got everything right!

Thanks again for your help.

Correct. The only thing you need to update them on is the typical change in circumstances.

If you're arriving in Australia and hold the 300, you're a resident. Doesn't matter if you're married or not, it's about the visa you have.
