Hi! I'm a US citizen and my fiance is Australia. We're applied for a PMV 5 months ago and have yet to hear anything, which I understand to be pretty normal. I'd love to move to Australia on the sooner side, but I know it'll take a few more months for the PMV to come through.

I've looked through visa options, and it seems like the Work and Holiday visa could be a good fit. Is it possible for me to apply for this visa while my PMV is processing? If I'm granted a WHV, will that cancel my PMV application?

Yes, it is an option. I had a friend do exactly that just last year. Applied for a PMV in February and then applied for a W&HV in June and came over on that.

You should update your contact details in immi (like address, phone number, etc) for when you're in Oz. Once they're ready to finalize the PMV, if you're onshore, they'll just send you an email asking you to leave for a few days. You can fly to any country, doesn't have to be the US.

Important to note though that if the PMV happens to be granted while you're still waiting a decision on the W&HV, you should withdraw the W&HV application before a decision is made.
