Two more questions, sorry.
If we are applying online does that mean we need to have birth certificates and FBI check certified by a JP? Or do we post them the originals? I assume we post the passport photos? I'm just a bit confused because the booklet says certified copies but another page says when applying online documents do not need to be certified so if anyone could clarify this that would be amazing. I just want to be prepared before we start.

The partner migration booklet is out of date. Best to follow the instructions on the immigration website for your visa.
Nothing gets posted in, nothing gets uploaded as a certified copy. Clear color scans of the originals are what is required.
Even the F888 is not a certified copy; only the signatures are certified as those of the authors.
The booklet checklist was based on paper applications which no longer exist as online is the only way to apply now. The only reason paper applications required certified copies was because you wouldn't post them your original birth certificate or passports or any other important paperwork, so you'd send copies that were certified as true copies of the originals. Obviously this is irrelevant now. So upload clear color scans of original documents, including police checks (don't post these).
As for proof, have you talked about your plans to move and live with your partner via messages with your partner, family, or friends? That's one way. Another is to explain your plans once you get to Oz in your statement.

Okay great, thank you that really helps and explains why I'm so confused. I've read the booklet over and over but the conflicting information was really doing my head in. When we begin the application will it kind of guide us through? I think I have everything prepared to upload.

No. You'll go step by step for each page, but the upload screen doesn't offer much help. Keep to the checklist on the website.

ok great thanks, I have a list of everything that should be uploaded according to the website. I have all our pictures, chat logs, and call logs saved into PDFs ready to go.
Do you have any idea what kind of word length is good for our personal statements? Mine is 1700 words (3 pages) but it's kind of condensed because I felt like maybe I was going into too much detail. I addressed all the bullet points they asked me to.

It is my personal opinion that the boxes within the app are intentionally limited to 2000 characters for each question for a reason. They have a limited time to review applications and so they probably want the questions answered directly (not going off on tangents), and kept short, sweet, and to the point.
It is often recommended if you are doing your own statement and skipping those boxes to keep it to 1-2 pages. What you decide to upload is up to you though as it is your application.
Personally, I stuck with the boxes. They put them in there for a reason, after all.

Case officers actually use the major aspects of a spousal relationship (financial, household, social, commitment) to determine if you genuinely intend to live together, even though engaged couples normally would not have much in the way of joint finances or a joint household.
