Hey guys,

I had a question about the "dependent relative" criteria on the subclass 190 visa:

  • My mother is widowed and has no income.
  • I have one brother who is a PR and living in Australia.
  • I have another brother who is 16 years old in high school.

I want to include both my mother and my little brother on my visa as dependent relatives, so is that possible? are they dependent relatives as per the DIBP criteria? I can provide the following proof:

  • Proof of financial dependency (bank statements), my brother is a minor, my mother has no income
  • They both live with me in a rented apartment.
  • No other relative takes care of them but me.

Thanks guys for your help!

The answer to your question is yes they can be included on your application. They come under the definitions of close relative, which is a subset of relative, which is a subset of family unit. You would have to show their dependency on you.

is the following evidence enough to prove dependency:
  • Bank statements proving financial dependency.
  • Proof that the mother has no income (tax records).
  • Proof that we are living at the same address (national id & letters).
  • Birth certificate of brother proving that he is under 18 years old.
  • Statutory declaration from both of them that they are dependant on me.
  • Death certificate of father.
