Question about citizenship

Hi, I'm on a 189 PR Visa.

The rules state I must live in Australia for 4 years with less than 12 months away and more than 12 months PR.

I arrived in August 2015. In August 2019 it will be 4 years. I have spent 6 months outside of Australia (does this have to be added on?).

So let's say I leave Australia in June 2019. Technically I would be 2 months short. But what if I just use those 2 months as time out of Australia and just wait until August and apply then? Even if I'm working in another country.

1. Is that possible?
2. Can you apply from abroad?

1. Yes
2. Yes

You do not need to add time to the 4 years (so spending 6 months outside Australia doesn't mean you need to wait 4 years + 6 months before you apply.

Your dates would be cutting it quite fine, but yes you can apply from overseas and as long as you apply before reaching 3 months during the 12 months immediately before applying, then yes you meet the residency requirement.

You may need to be in Australia in order for your application to be processed though, so your plan may have some challenges in that regard.
