Dear Friends,

I'm on the verge of getting selected by an Australian firm. If selected, they propose to provide me with Temporary Business (Long Stay) - Standard Business Sponsorship (Subclass 457). Being an overseas worker, understandably I have a big list of questions and would be thankful if anybody can answer the same. Precisely, my questions are as follows:-

1) Usually, how much time is taken to get this kind of visa processed?
2) What are the key documents required from employee-end?
3) Can I obtain driving license on this visa?
4) How much time will it take to call my family to Australia?
5) Can this visa be converted into permanent residency visa and subsequently can I along with my family apply for Australian citizenship?
6) Is the schooling and medical absolutely free of cost in Australia?
7) Any additional information from your end would be helpful?

It can take up to six months or so for a 457 visa, possibly quicker dependent on circumstances and you should have a read of all the detail on that visa provided on the Immi website, the visa info eligibility section also having full information for applications including your family travelling to Australia and they can also be included on your application with agreement of your sponsor, even though they may not travel straight away.

Obviously, there is a substantially greater cost in that and it could be that you will want to wait until you are more established and feel there is some security in your employment for without that the visa ceases to be valid and you will quickly have to find another sponsor, another interim visa or leave Australia.

When on a TR visa, there is a possibility of applying for PR if you have an agreeable and eligible sponsor or will meet indepent application criteria, either being a new visa application.
Health and Education are not totally free and there is a levy that income earners pay in addition to Income Taxation as well as Medical Insurance that many people may have.
A trip to a local doctor can cost anywhere between $50 - $100 unless you have one that does what is called Bulk Billing where they charge the government direct.
If you attend a medical practice that requires a fee to be paid, you can then claim back from Medicare about 60% to 70% of the paid fee.
