I met my wife (australian citizen) through a mutual friend march 09 over the internet and we stayed in contact every day and we finally met in person august 09 and from that day forth we commited a long distant relationship. I asked her to take my hand in marriage jan 25th but we were still living in two diffrent countries me in the USA her in QLD may 5th i arrived in brisbane and we went to the registry office and lodged our inttend to marry 9th of june 2010. I moved into her house with her and lived there till august of this year. We decided to go on our honeymoon in august because we needed to lodge our spouse visa offshore the reason for that is because i had a no further stay condition on my tourist visa.We also found out 1 month before we left she is pregnant with our first child and now she is over 3 months and her due date is 26th of march 2011 and we can not be any happier we have just sent off our spouse visa 309 to washington DC they recieved it today and we included all the documents like the FBI Check,My medical we have a joint bank account together in australia and our car insurance is in both our names and we included pictures and all the other supporting eveidence like stat decs my wife also has another child from relationship when she was younger but she has nothing to do with the father and i have taken her as my own and her name is legally changed to my surename just like my wife my question is does anybody know how long it takes to get the visa approved? also when does the case officer contact you? because i really want to be in australia around nov-dec and go to these doctor visits with my wife and espicially want to be there for the birth of my child im just a bit nervous i have had to misdemanors on my record but never served time in jail over 12 months i just had to pay fines and do some community service and these charges were done when i was about 19 yrs old i am about to be turning 26 this december hope somebody can help me and have a great day thank you so much:)

Hi Starrizer..

First..Congratulations on the new baby to arrive soon..

I applied for my 309 visa in July 2010. And with me there were 2 other cases on this forum itself, who had applied around the same time in July. We were all assigned case officers in 2-3 weeks at the max. 2 of us got our visas in the first week of september. My application was front loaded with everything except for the police clearances, which i mailed them 2 days after I was assigned a CO. I am not sure how the misdemeanours will affect your processing, but the above information should give you an idea of the latest timelines at DC. Hope it helps.

A few posters have posted re times for visas increasing and I have posted on reasons for that, which it seems from your own words you have picked up. Aside from that, there are various reasons why processing times can vary and so you can never rely on what other has happened with other people occurring with your own application.
If you need to leave Australia because of your current visa reaching an expiry date, you could take a trip over to New Zealand or somewhere in the pacific/asia and on arrival apply for an ETA or further tourist visa to return and then you'll need to take a further trip when the partner visa is ready for granting.

You may have a CO by November but it's really dependant on just what their workload is over in the US and if for instance they get an increase in applications heading into the fall over there because people are conscious of wanting to get out before the height of winter, you could have something of a longer wait.
So get yourself an ETA online if need be for they are cheaper.
