I am a PhD student in University of Wollongong. I applied for my wife's visa and they granted her Subclass 500 Visa with the following conditions:

8201 - Maximum three months study
8104 - Work limitation
8501 - Maintain health insurance
8516 - Must maintain eligibility

I heard that in spouse visa, spouse is allowed to work without limitations but here case is different. I don't know why they granted her student visa instead of spouse visa though we didn't get any admission for her? Any ideas about this visa category, why they granted this visa and is it allowed to change it to limitations-free visa?

I'll highly appreciate your help and guidance.

As a PhD student, you hold a 500 visa and your wife is given the same visa. She could only apply for a spouse (partner) visa if you were a permanent resident or citizen.
