I'm still finalising the details in the online application, and haven't yet "Submitted" it. From what I understand I can't attach documents to the application until after I hit submit.

Is it possible to make changes to the main part of the application after it's submitted - e.g. if there are further travel dates to include, or if I spot a small mistake, or if I want to add an extra person to the list of those providing stat decs?

After it is submitted, can I then attach documents? Is there a time limit for doing this? Either enforced, or practical (if the application get assigned, will they know that I haven't finished uploading docs)?

When do I pay for the application (presumably this is after I've had the opportunity to attach documents)?

With the Berlin office, is it usual that I'd have to post off physical copies of some documents (e.g. police certificates)?

thanks!

Yes you pay at the end of the online application and then you have the opportunity to attach your documents, it's pretty straight forward as you have drop downs of what they require you to attach.

Police checks we just scanned in once we received, the medical was automatically uploaded about 7 days after it was completed.

I read that it is usually two weeks that you attach your documents within but I did attach some after this and never had any issues.

I kept phoning to see if a CO was assigned so I knew it was being assessed.

I am UK based so unsure if it's' different in Berlin I would imagine not but obviously can't say for definite.

Fantastic, thanks. So it makes sense that I get as many of the documents I plan to attach ready now ... before I do the submission/payment step (thanks for confirming the order it happens).

(to all) is there any thought on whether London or Berlin is better to choose? Makes no difference to me, we'd need to jump on a plane in either case .. are there other factors to choose or doesn't it matter?

Yes try and get as much together as possible but I found two weeks was plenty of time to get it all attached. You'll have 60 uploads for you and another 60 for the sponsor so if you run out on yours you can attach it to the sponsors instead. We didn't have to do that though and we've been together 16 years.

No problem, all the best with it. It's just a horrible waiting game once everything is submitted but worth it in the end. :)

It more so depends on where the applicant is from, not where you apply from (everything is done online). Honestly, the good news is Berlin and London are two of the fastest processing centres right now, so either would be fine, so I would not worry

There's no real easy way to make changes. If you need to correct a mistake you made you can do that, there's is a link I think under "update us" to make changes, however each time you do this it takes up one of your upload slots, so I wouldn't rely on that to make small changes all over the place. I would try your best to have a complete and correct application at the time you submit. If you have to travel after you've submitted, I wouldn't worry too much about it personally.

Good to know, thanks.

Actually the whole travel section is quite funny for us really. We live close to the German border, France & Austria are one hour's drive ... and Italy is a few hours by train. It's rare that we aren't in Germany at least twice a week ... and as part of Schengen, there are no passport controls as you move around countries in Europe (so no passport stamps either).

If I can remember which countries I've been in (with dates) for the last month, I'm doing very well. Tracking this for the last 10 years ... :D:D:D ... impossible!

So I've ignored this day-day stuff and tried to concentrate on our holidays. Even so, that's difficult to track ... on a Friday morning: "what about we go to the Vorarlberg in Austria for the weekend, as the weather's beautiful". Or an impulse late-Friday night ... "what about we ski at Damüls tomorrow". We've even driven to France for lunch on the spur of the moment (great steak here!). First-world problems!

I do understand what they're trying to achieve here ... it's just funny how it completely fails to map to reality for people living close to country borders.

Lucky you :D

I have seen this from other forum members living in Schengen zone. From memory what they did was submit a document documenting this and explaining they've done their best with the dates on the application however with no stamps in passport and frequent travel between Schengen countries, it is impossible to document exactly. As far as I know this has sufficed.

When submitting an application with dependent children, do the documents which I need to upload (e.g. copies of passports) all get uploaded to the same section (so should I create a PDF will all of the passports together to be uploaded as one document in one section), or should they be kept separate? I'm trying to prepare as much as possible before submitting/paying, so that the application is as fully complete as quickly as it can be. Thanks!

ID documents should be submitted separately. You will have a separate document upload section for each person on the application. Each child's ID documents should ideally be uploaded under their own upload section and the document named clearly such as joe_bloggs_passport.pdf / jane_bloggs_passport.pdf
