Applications for 457 visas has remained open during recent changes.
Temporary Business (Long Stay) - Standard Business Sponsorship (Subclass 457) has 457 details and you do need to find a sponsor and fulfill registration requirements
There is more specific information for doctors @ http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/medical-practitioners/

Using Capitals btw is akin to shouting and just as it can be more difficult to communicate with someone when they are shouting, reading of Capitals is a bit of a pain, though fortunately a doctor not needed.
Please refrain.

The 422 is no longer available as of today. Doctors can now apply under the 457.

I do not know where you got 5.0 from for pretty sure all info would now state a minimum of 6.0 and if you check out doctor registration info you may find a minimum of 7.0 is required.

Doctor

Hi there,

I don't know what kind of doctor you are, but my husband is a family practitioner. He is working with Rural Doctors Workforce Agency. This is in South Australia. Every state in Australia has an agency of a similar sort that you can work with. It is my understanding that Australia is in desperate need of doctors, but if you are an international medical graduate they will only allow you to work in a rural area for a predetermined amount of time (depending on how rural you go). My husband has already accepted a job in South Australia. We have submitted our Visas and are waiting for FBI clearance. We applied for a 457 visa with a 422 subclass (there is a tickbox on the application). In order to apply for a 457 you have to be sponsored by an employer, another words already offered a job. It is a very long process. Prior to all this my husband got advanced standing with the Australian Medical Council.

Hi Guys,

I am a 24 years old French man fluent in English and recently employed under a 417 WHV by a catering business in Sydney. I first came to Australia two years ago to complete a Bachelor of International Business and went home to carry on with a Master in IB. Last I was back in Australia was October last year under a 417 WHV. I have worked for 2 different companies before I filled my current position as a Business Developement Manager earning a base salary of $35,000/year + comission.

My concern is the following : my current visa only allows me to work 6 months for the same employer.

I would like to keep my current position for an extended period of time and my employer is willing to sponsor me to keep me in the company.

After looking into the requirements I found out the the applicant must be earning more than 47,800/year.

If anyone has advice to offer or has experienced a similar situation where they have applied for a sponsorship visa, please feel free to advise me what would be the best option to get this visa in my situation.

Ps: If it helps, my partner is an Australian citizen and we have been together for over 2 years now.

There are eligibility requirements for the 457 and salary is one of them.
If your partner is a PR and you have been together two years you may find you are eligible for a partner visa and with suitable evidence of being together it should be a reasonably straightforward application and if your current visa expires you will have a bridging visa granted that will allow you to continue working as per conditions of your existing visa.

457?

Does anyone have any general understanding on the timing of a 457 Visa?
My employer and relocation service are handling the paperwork, etc, I am just wondering if anyone knows how long these take to process.
