Hi All,

I'm hoping someone could answer a few questions, I apologise if these questions have come up before. If someone could point me to the right direction, that would be greatly appreciated

I applied for citizenship by conferral last Aug 2022, status of application is still 'RECEIVED'. When I filled out the application, I said yes when asked if I had plans to depart Australia within 12 months of the application.

I am now planning to go overseas in May (and maybe November)

My questions are:

• Do I need to let Immi/someone know that I will out of Australia for a few weeks? How and how soon?
• What is the next stage to received?
• What would happen if my application gets processed from received to the next stage and I'm overseas?

Hi, Yes you do need to advise on your application your overseas travel dates. You can update your information online through your application to add your travel details. As your application will clearly state your travel dates the department will be fully aware you are overseas during that time and will not arrange any appointments during that time.
Next stage is your interview and citizenship test date, which is all done at the same time.
If you are unsure how to update online application you may be able to receive help by calling.....

Thanks so much for supplying the information, greatly appreciated! Unfortunately I do not see a way to inform DHA of my travels through online application, so I will have to call them

Yes, I do, is that how I can inform DHA of my future travels?

Do I write them a letter stating my intent of travel? Also wondering if they get back to me straight away after uploading, I just don't want to have an issue where they read/get the letter a few days before the flight.

Write a letter, and upload it under "Other Documents". Name it something like "Travel Plan notification".
They may or may not reply, but you should see that they received it in the IMMI account.

It would be expected that they would check unread documents from you, at a minimum when they next look at the file. Probably even earlier, when they are notified of a new message received.

We did that when my wife got a new passport.

Hello All,

I'm just doing a follow up on this thread

I ended up calling the DHA on the 31st of Jan after my husband was pushing that I didn't need to let them know that we were traveling overseas (LOL). He was concerned that they might push back my date of interview if I tell them.

DHA confirmed that I have to inform them of this and any future travels while I have an active citizenship application lodged. I have told them that I will be traveling in May

Just an hour ago, I have received an invitation to do the citizenship test on the 20th of February.

I have lodged my application last 19th of August

Hi there,

I have a question.

So I applied on Aug 26 2022. From then to now, I have been offshore for 3 months, onshore for 3 months.

My scheduled test date is 4 April. I can make the test + interview date and time, but I will have to leave the country in the same evening due to family and work commitments.

I will only return on Monday, 14 August 2023 and stay then on with no travel plans.

Can I understand if I can travel after a test/interview and before the application status is updated to approved?
