visa 494 3-year work experience requirement

Hi all,

I intend to apply for a visa 494 (skilled sponsored regional). However, I do not fulfill the 3 years of experience requirement as I had to stop working while doing my Master's degree in Australia. I do have more than 10 years of experience in my field. Yet, the requirement states that the 3 years of experience must have been obtained within the last 5 years, I only have 2.5 years of experience in that time as the rest of the time I was doing my masters. Do I have a change or shall I look for another type of visa? TIA for the replies.

They do say:

You must have been employed in the nominated occupation for at least 3 years on a full-time basis and at the skill level required for the nominated occupation.

Generally, you should have gained your experience within the last 5 years.

It seems to allow for some exceptions.

When immigration write 'generally' they mean usually.
May I suggest that you run your case past one of the registered migration agents who posts on this forum?
