Hi I have a Thai girlfriend.

she has studied business in uni.

She lives in Koh Samui and has a daughter. But works in a hotel right now. Not in accounting that she could be doing. Mostly because of flexibility with kid.

We have known each other for quite a while now and spent time together etc.

Not nearly ready to marry or anything,

but I was wanting to bring her and the child to australia.

1 to have proper time together.
2 to decide proper relationship.

i call every night about 2 or 3 hours but i just dont feel i can make a decision about such things with some short 2 week visits and phone conversation.

So I wanted to know the following.

If i bring her and the daughter for a 6 month tourist visa and I feel all is good. Can i then make application for defacto visa?

I know it says 12 months but i was hoping since the wait time is like 18 months I could claim it as almost 2 years by the time the application is processed.

It would be hard with the 3 year old daughter not easily able to goto day care and get in to learn English from kids waiting on a tourist visa for 12 months.

If your partner and daughter are granted tourist visas without “ no further stay” condition, they may be able to make a further visa application while in Australia.

For a partner visa , the relationship requirement must me be met at the time the application is lodged, nor some time down the line. Furthermore, I regularly get partner visas granted in less than 12 months.

A 6 month tourist visa may be rather ambitious. Three month stays tend to be the standard.

It might be a good idea to talk to a registered migration agent to work out a realistic strategy. Your situation is not uncommon.

Thanks ccms,

Ok Yeah still a while away but interested to have the information.

Seems like a pain in the backside but the things people will do for love.

are multiple entry visa`s difficult to get?

My biggest concern was shipping a young 3 year old back and forth so often.
Also 12 months supporting 2 is a bit of a burden with no help.

I`d like to send the girl to daycare 1 or 2 days a week for culture and exposure to kids in English not adults.

It is, especially when you try and do it all yourself.

They are fairly standard, but is usually best to apply for a 3 month single entry first. A Thai case officer once told me that they like to see a balance between visits. In other words, people should go home for a while between visits and not try and remain in Australia for lengthy periods on tourist visas.
