I am an Australian who went to Kupang in Indonesia in 2017 to help build an orphanage for Indonesian kids. I returned in 2018 because they are lovely.

I would like to assist two of the older children (who are 20 years old now and in university) to come to Australia for 1 month to visit us and speak English.

I believe that they would apply for a Visitor visa (subclass 600).

Before they can apply for a visa they must get an Indonesian passport. This is expensive for students in Indonesia to buy.
Also, on the Australian Home Affairs website it suggests that we might then pay between $145 and $1045 for each visa. I would like to know before hand the chances of success. As we cannot afford to pay $2000 as well as airfares and board whilst here.

Does anyone have any experience of this situation?

A standard tourist visa application is $ 145.

If they can demonstrate strong incentives to return to Indonesia and access to sufficient funds they may have a chance. It won’t be easy though.
