Hi, I came to Australia with an accompanying student visa 5 years ago (spouse of PhD student). I recently discovered that with my Business Admin BA and MBA I can qualify as an accountant (Covered 11 topics out of 12 in total 7 years study)

I am trying to get accountant assessment and apply before 1st July.

My question is: I have been working in one of the big Banks in Australia for the last 4 years (last 2.5 being in a middle manager position). Role is in operations mainly involves broker commission payments and requires understanding of basic accounting knowledge.

Would immigration consider this as closely related to my nominated occupation "accountant"??? or should I try to fit in Business Professionals and get points from "in any occupation in SOL"???

Please help, I have very limited time left before they change the rule for accountant assessment but I am not sure how to put my Australian experience in my application.

Thanks

Ida

Hi Ida and I reckon your best approach will be to just stick with the accounting aspect as the banking industry does involve a lot of accounting principles as you'd appreciate and you ought to be able to just emphasise the accounting content of your positions.

I assume it'll be the offshore skilled visa you'll apply for and re the eligibility, have you also noted that in addition to specific experience, there are points for Australian experience and if you did some study in Australia, there's also points for that you may be eligible for as well.
Skilled - Independent (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 175)

And without going into detail of what visa you have been here working on already other than initially spouse, if what you're on now cannot kead to a PR application, you may even want to talk to your employer re they sponsoring you for you'll have a higher priority and get it processed a lot quicker.
Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 121/856)

That way you could apply for an onshore visa and that'll save you a trip abroad which you'll need to do to get the 175 offshore visa granted.
