partner on bridging visa?

hi guys, i have a few questions and im really lost at this point with all the info on the immigration website.

My boyriend of over a year is on a bridging visa (not sure if its general or specific) anyways he needs to gain one year of employment in his industry, IT to apply for his tr/pr. I'm currently on a student visa and i'm not re enrolling in the second semester of uni since i found the course not suited to me. I have been in oz for over 2 years.

I was wondering if there was some way i could stay here on my bf's visa as a dependant or partner. We have been living together for 6 months and we can't get married yet since by tradition his younger sister has to be married off first. That will take at least another 2 years. A long distance relationship would be hard on both of us since we would not be able to come back and forth to see each other much. He told me he would marry me but i don't want us to rush into such a step just to get me to stay here with him.

Also, if i have to go back to my country, will he be able to put me on his tr/pr application as a de facto partner so that i can come back and join him.

It's been a really confusing time and i don't want to leave him and go but i can't stay on a tourist visa as it would mean no working and no career for me.

thanks for any help

Hi,
Could you be more specific? What visa does he hope to apply for, or has he already applied for it and that's why he's on a bridging visa? You might be able to be included on his application as a secondary apllicant if you meet the eligibility, but if you want your question answered we need to know what visa you're referring to.

hi sarah, i have to ask him about the specifics later but its a skilled migrant visa that he is going for i think. he hasnt applied for the visa yet, he finished his graduate diploma and got the recognition letter from the IT skills recognition board. he has not gotten his ielts scoring though so he cant apply for tr yet.

also he is working in the govt sector so he is hoping that he might get a govt sponsorship instead.

When he applies for the skilled visa, you apply as the second applicant.
For each visa, I'm not sure how much the criteria differ, there are certain criteria that the 2nd applicant must meet in order to be added. For exmaple:

Skilled - Independent (Residence) Visa (Subclass 885)
Secondary Applicant Eligibility

You may include the following secondary applicants in your visa application:
- partner
- a dependent child of you or your partner
- a dependent relative of you or your partner.

See:
General Skilled Migration
General Skilled Migration

Secondary applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
Skilled – Independent (Residence) visa (subclass 885)
Skilled – Independent (Residence) visa (subclass 885)
http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...ity-health.htm
Skilled – Independent (Residence) visa (subclass 885)
Skilled – Independent (Residence) visa (subclass 885)
(These are criteria such as: health, english language, location....)

While he's on the Bridging visa you can't do anything, but you can certainly be a 2nd applicant on his skilled visa if you meet the criteria for whichever visa it is (the criteria may be different to the example I've put here).
