Health Check - What happens?

Hey there!

I just submitted my on shore partner visa application in person on 30/12/2014 to avoid the fee increase (crazy!!!). I received the acknowledgement email yesterday, and it requested I have medicals done so I've booked an appointment for next week.

Now my question is, what actually happens during the medicals? I absolutely hate going to the doctors, so I would like to prepare myself a bit for what is going to happen during the 2-hour check. Anyone who has done them in Australia who can shed light on what goes on?

Thanks!

I think some home countries might require more tests than this, but I had to do three in Perth: a chest x-ray, an HIV test, and a general exam.
The x-ray is just putting on a gown and standing against the machine. Quick and easy. The HIV test they do with a blood sample, but it's basically painless anyway and they just take a bit.
The general medical exam is like a normal doctor visit. They check blood pressure, eyesight, weight, you pee in a cup, they look in your ears and mouth. My exam doctor also had me strip down to my bra and jeans for about 3 minutes (then she just applied some pressure to my abdomin. Not sure what she was looking for but she explained something about... it helps them find abnormalities. Lol) Then the last part was just speaking with the doctor about my medical history.
If you have specific conditions, they might test other things. Same thing if your home country has risks of certain diseases. Hope that helps. :)

I had mine done in Parramatta a couple of weeks ago and it took only 45 minutes from the moment I stepped in the building until it was all done. I really can recommend them. Very friendly and a "nice" modern centre.

I did mine in adelaide at the bupa centre, such a nice clean space and the staff there are super friendly! Mine only took 40 mins as I did it first thing Christmas Eve but the lady told me I was lucky as once January comes she said it could be up to a 4 hour wait!!! Absolute madness

I did mine in Newcastle and everything was very well organised and quick. Took me about an hour to get everything (this included getting my picture taken, them checking my ID, AND walking to the nearby radiology centre to get the chest x-ray done) done. Was not bad at all, everyone was friendly and professional.

Just out of curiosity what state are you in, I thought DIAC stopped walk in apps at least twelve months ago. We applied for our 820 in September and have not been asked for medicals yet.

Hi Scotty. I'm in Brisbane, hadnt heard anything about them not taking walk-in applications, so we just showed up at the immigration office and they took the application without any comments. I haven't been assigned a case officer or anything yet so I'm not expecting a decision any sooner than had I applied online.

and thanks everyone for the replies, it doesn't seem like it will be that awful I guess!

I did the same too, I submitted on 29/12/2014 to avoid $2300 extra, a little bit rush to doing this, however, we planned to submit our application on January before, so finger cross to myself :)

Wow, that's lucky! Whoever you saw at the window must not have known they don't take walk-in partner visa applications anymore. That's been their policy for quite some time now.

I was wondering about this too, so thanks to everyone that answered!

Additional question - I applied for my 187 visa, haven't done the health check yet but I'd like to do it sooner rather than later so I don't stall the process when the case officer inevitably requests it.

Do I have to wait till they ask for it, or can I just go ahead and do it? I've already submitted the application and the wait time online is only 5 months, so it seems like I could do the health check now.

Do they ask for specific things, or can I just go ahead and book it and it's the same generic test for everyone? (I'm just worried about getting the wrong tests done or something.)

Due to technical issues I'm not able to access my application through my Immi account online, so I can't look it up there.

Any info would be super helpful!

The website is full of out of date info. Numerous agents have posted this information on here over the last couple of years, and numerous applicants on this forum have been turned away when they tried to apply in person once they began this change. I'm afraid that's all I can tell you.

Hello,

Just a random question that might not be related. I submitted my online 820 visa application in July last year and recently i just noticed on my immi account there's a link that i could click to arrange for a medical check up. Do i do that or wait for a case officer to email me and ask me to do my medicals? any help would be great. Thanks. I am just waiting anxiously to get granted. :)
