820/801 Partner Visa - Sponsor Financial Support

Hi, I searced the forum but couldn't find what I was looking for, apologies if I missed it.

I have a relatively straightforward situation:

I have been working in WA for just over 2 years on a 457 visa. I have a de-facto Austrailian partner, and we have a 1 year old son. We have had joint accounts and a joint lease for the last 18 months or so, for the last 3 months we have been living in our own house bought in both our names on a joint mortgage.

Before the pregnancy my partner worked part time in between studying, and then was on unpaid maternity leave until around March this year when she resigned. I confortably earn enough to support the family while my partner looks after our son.

So, given all the above is it worth me applying for an 801/820 visa even though my partner cannot provide evidence that she could support me if I was out of work?

My occupation is on the skilled occupation list, and I have enough points to apply for a skilled worker visa if I do the english language test. Would this be a simpler (if more expensive) route to take?

Thanks, Dave

Thanks

It's not the end of the world if the sponsor has been unemployed. DIAC looks at a broad picture of your skills and career as well. You might want to put evidence of your earnings in the app. to show you have been able to support the 2 of you.

If DIAC did ask for an AoS, it can be done jointly by up to 3 people with or without the visa sponsor, so it's not all doom and gloom.
