Yeah i met all of his friends many times over the years but he always translated for me and I only speak a few words of amharic so it was very easy for him to deceive me. he was very dedicated to his cause. . we were friends a year before he made a move on me, never asked for money, said he would be just as happy if i moved to Ethiopia etc. He is very good at playing the game. I have a law degree and am pretty good at finding holes in stories and was suspicious from the start but over the years i figured if he was lying i would have caught him out by now. If he hadn't changed on arrival in aus and hadn't left his email open on my laptop, i wouldn't know what i do now!

I wonder what scammer would do if they or their wife could not have kids? Stick it out for the 2 years? It makes me sick of these loop holes it is the same how some claim abuse to stay here.
Stick it out the two years - probably. This is probably one of the main reasons they're cracking down on 820 to 801. And rightfully so.

Even though it makes it harder for those of us that are genuine I am glad they are cracking down on it.

Sherohara it makes me so sad and angry when reading posts like yours. Unfortunately as others have said...this is not uncommon. When I was studying, there was someone in my class who never had a good thing to say about anyone unless they were white! Anyway....fast forward a year and he's dating a lovely black girl....within months they are married...I run into him by chance on my way to work and he's asking about my visa application and basically admits that the whole marriage is just so he can get his Aussie residency.....about a month later I find out that his wife is 8 months pregnant. It makes me so angry but I have no doubt that as soon as his 801 comes through....this relationship will be over and this poor girl will be left holding the baby.....some people REALLY suck

Am so sorry to heard what was happening to you sherohara.
am from Africa too came to australia six years ago. With my ex wife on a student visa .we separate and after a year I met my oz wife and get married eight months later. read all this post I wondering if my situation make me look like a scam ?? Again am so sorry for what's happing to you sherohara many people divorce everyday in Australia but this doesn't mean everyone who came from africa is a scam. some are lucky to found love some not , scam is everywhere. I met a beautiful woman today she is my wife. I cant imagine my life without her.the only thing who ruin us now is all the visa procedures, all the evidence you will have to great to show your genuine relationship make us look like scam , my wife is sick of this. Today so many of genuine relationship suffer because of some scam, exclude the expensive visa fees.we heard only your version of history ,will be good to hear you ex husband version as well
