Another fee for the 100 Visa? (309/100)

Does anyone know if we will have to pay the shortfall between the old 309 application fee and the current fee when we get our TR (100 Visa)?

Our 309 visa was granted in 2014 at the old $3085 price, and the fee will probably be $6000 dollars by the time we get TR in 2016. We're not looking forward to coming up with another $3000!

No you don't. You initial application fee included the cost for your permanent visa.

It's one application just broken into to stages - best way to think of it

There is a visa application charge for the second stage, the amount is nil. The thinking behind this is (probably) that if an invalid application is lodged the visa application charge is refundable. If a 309 were refused, this would render the accompanying PR application invalid and the applicant/s would become entitled to a refund of nil.

If you think it is impossible to receive a bill for zero with threats about the outcome if you do not pay it, let me assure you that bureaucrats and their computers have no problem doing this.
