applying for BVB

Hi all,

I am kinda new to this forum. im a bit stressed out and need your help. I am about to apply for my 485 post graduate study visa. after applying i will be given a bridging visa A. But i have to travel during that period and therefore i have to apply for BVB. now the question is that if i apply on the 28th of jan and i have to travel on 13th feb, is there enough time for the immigration dept to grant me the BVB ?? ( i heard that should apply when 2 weeks are left before travel but i am not sure). and secondly do i have to apply for BVB in person, or via mail or online ?
Any help will be highly appreciated. Cheers

Shery

They usually recommend applying 2 weeks before your travel. You apply via post to your local DIBP office.

If you haven't heard anything 1 week before you travel then contact them and see what is happening.

I went down to the Brisbane office to apply for my BVB, spoke to a consultant and got it granted on the spot. Same as you they told me to apply 2 weeks before travelling (I tried applying earlier, but was sent home again, hehe). This was in 2013.

Presuming that your current visa will have expired by the time your travel? Given BVA stays dormant until it does.

Well you can lodge it in person at any immigration office, that's what it says on the form but they may just not grant it straight away so you may as well mail it...unless you live really close to a processing centre.

You shouldn't have any issues.

My partner applied for his inside 2 weeks of his departure and received a call from IMMI the following day ready to grant it.

They process them based on date of departure so just get it to them as soon as you can and if it isn't approved in a week or so from them receiving it give them a call, but like I said you shouldn't have any issues.
