Exclamation Tourist visa while waiting for a 309 permanent visa

Hi everyone
I have lodged my 309 visa application to the Berlin Office on the 15/5/2011, because of my need to travel to Australia with my family this year 19/9/2001, I thought to apply for a tourist visa. From previous communication with the Berlin office a CO will propably open my case by the end of this month and maybe by September. So they cannot guarantee if I will be ready to fly by the 19th of Sepember. I have send my medicals, and for youre information I have been married from 1995 with my husband (who is also my Sponsor) who is a holder of an Australian passport. My two children will be also travelling with me ( which both are Australian citizens and holders of an Australian passport)
So my question is it will be wise to apply for a tourist visa, I have a list of questions
1/ Do I need to have a return ticket with my tourist visa?

2/ How long can I stay in Australia and can I extand my tourist visa?

3/ Will the tourist visa affect my 309 application?

4/ Will I have to return to Greece to activate my 309 visa or can I fly to a nearby country, i.e Singapore, New Zealand?

5/ If yes on question 4, how long do I have to stay in this country?

6/ If my 309 is activated what does this intaile, i.e would it be electronically subscribed to my passport?

7/ How long does it take for a tourist visa to be granted?

Thank you for your time.
