I lived in Brazil for two years and and will need the police clearance certificate from there. Which one do you need for immigration purposes. Just the one from Federal police, or also state and local clrearance. Hope someone knows.

hi cathp

you can look up character clearance requirements here:
http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/char...cter-penal.pdf

specifically for brazil, they require the following:

BRAZIL
Relevant document – Residents and Non-residents must provide two different types of penal certificate(‘Atestado de Antecedentes Criminais’)
Apply Residents in person to the office of the
• Justice Federal and
• Policia Federal
in the state/city of residence for the previous ten years.
Non-residents (or applicants who are unable to apply in person) can give power of attorney (Procuração) to a relative/friend to obtain the document on their behalf. The power of attorney needs to specify the reason for the request and be accompanied by a certified copy of the applicant’s National ID card.
Fee nil.
The original penal clearance must also be professionally translated

You need Federal Policia and Federal Justice certificates.
We also supplied the Civil Policia but I don't think it was necessary.
Remember these documents need to be translated by an APPROVED Australian translator.
