Bills in your name while on visitor visa

Just looking for opinions/thoughts from people who have successfully got bills in their names while on visitor visa.

I will be living in Australia with my fiance for the next few months and seeking to strengthen our evidence for partner visa application.

Should we expect any issues with adding my name to phone (home & cell) and electric bills in SA ?

How about adding me to car insurance? Any restrictions? I have a US drivers license.

I've been here almost a year on a visitor visa and have managed to get my name on my husbands mobile contract. We haven't tried other bills yet as we've been living with his parents to save money. I'd like to know if you manage this is if anyone else has experience too!

You shouldn't have any issues. When I rang to add my husband to bills they never asked if he was a resident. They just put him on the bill no question asked.

Though Origin did something strange and have the bill in my name but underneath has "joint account holder: lists my husband's name". Not entirely what I was after but at least still lists him.

Some companies can be funny though. My friend is with a different electricity company and she has had all sorts of problems as in they wanted a stat dec from her husband before they would add him ... he is on a 309.

At the end of the day just try and see how it goes. Telstra and Origin were a piece of cake to deal with. Foxtel don't do joint accounts so I had to be creative .

Car insurance was really easy too and my husband has an international license.

You will have no problem with bills in your name. You may use them as evidence for a partner visa application.

Ah, It's good to know that we shouldn't have a problem if he requests to have my name added in some capacity.

Thanks guys
