FORM 118 citicenship by descent HELP

Hello. i was wondering if anyone could help me. I am about to apply for my two month old daughter's citizenship through form 118 but dnt completely understand. I live in finland and was wondering how much it takes to get approval for citizenship ?

would it be easier if i go to australia for a visit and there i would apply for the citizenship for my daughter? would it take less time?

Thanks for any contributions. Take care.

Hi lucynora,

If you've read the form 118, it clearly states that the standard processing time is up to14 days. I think applying in Au will be less waiting, coz my boy applied offshore took around 4 weeks to get done. Regardless, whether you lodge oversea or in Au, required documents should be all the same.

Cheers

I just completed my 3 kids applications for citizenship by decent, I applied in the US, sent the forms to DC, they were processed there and returned to me in 10 days. It was very very simple. I found the citizenship certificate to be very unofficial looking, in that you send pics of your kids, but there is no pic on the certificate. My US citizenship has my photo on it. Just found it odd. Anyway, its really very simple, compared to all the other hoops we jump through, don't forget though once you apply for it your baby will have to have an Australian Passport, they cannot travel into Australia on a foreign passport, this process is more complicated, you have to go to an interview in person at an Australian Embassy office. The child doesn't have to go with fortunately but its an additional step. Good luck!
