Good Afternoon everyone,

Ok so I am an Australian citizen and I met and fell in love with my fiance a citizen of El Salvador living in the USA. Unfortunately he had to relocate there illegally due to the extreme violence in El Salvador. I am worried that this will affect our PMV visa. Has anyone else been in this situation? Should we apply to Washington or Canada?? HELP

If your partner has a passport from El Salvador then the application may be done on-line. In which case he doesn't have to lodge in the USA or Canada. However, he will have to explain his situation

Have you met each other in the flesh? One of the requirements for the PMV is that you have actually met each other.

I only just saw this 😢 and assumed no one had replied. We only just finished our paper application yesterday and we sent it via post to Washington as that was what was advised to me. No where on the paper application does it ask for his immigration status only if he has had problems with Australian immigration before, which of course he hasn't. Yes we met in person, which is how we met. When I was overseas in 2012 & I have been back a couple of times to see him.

Do you think they will ask him for his immigration status and will this affect our application? I rung Australian immigration and they seem to think it won't affect our application as they are more concerned with whether our relationship is genuine.

Hello there, I'm happy to say that my partner is now here in Australia and we are married. We are about to apply for the temp partner visa in order to get the permanent in 2 years time. It certainly was a difficult few months (5 and bit to be exact). Not only difficult being away from him but also not knowing whether his immi status in the USA was going to affect us or not. The main thing Australia is concerned about is whether or relationship was genuine or not. We had to provide more evidence and we had to correspond with our CO various times. Im happy to discuss with you via PM if you need more advice. Our situation was complicated too but we didn't pay a migration agent. Anyway good luck!
