While we're at the subject.

Will not the DIBP send out a message when the sponsorship has ended
Like;
Dear Mr. Jonno Aussie.
Your sponsorship commitment with the applicant Miss Peggy Pomme,for a xxxVisa has now ceased. ..
or something like that?

No, they don't. They will communicate with the applicant only.

Furthermore, very often people change addresses and contact details without notifying the DIBP and no communication is received at all.

One reason whyI usually do not include stage 2 applications in my contract.
