PMV to 820 questions (Malaysia)

Hi guys.

My PMV has been granted recently and our ROM is next thursday. I have a few questions for the 820 right after.

Does any Malaysian know how on earth do I go about to changing my name after marriage? Searching about it but no good results came out. Ugh. It's so uncommon to hear malaysians changing names after marriage that it doesn't even appear in google.

Also, what do I need to submit for the 820 after marriage? Marrying next thursday, so not much time! Will I need to resubmit everything? (I did it online)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the PMV expires and changes into a bridging visa the moment I apply for 820 right? I was planning to apply for 820 right after our ROM and then going back to Malaysia on April 25th to settle some things here (like finding a renter and moving out, cleaning out my stuff, etc) But if I was on bridging visa, it means I can't leave unless I have good reasons, which mine aren't. My then husband (eek!! husband!! xD) would be leaving on April 25th as well to Houston for work training for a month. That's why I thought it would be good opportunity to head back to MYS to move out and all that.

Does this mean I should apply after I've done what I needed to do in MYS and back in AUS? I would prefer to do it as soon as possible because I like to get on things fast.

We already have joint bank accounts and bills with my name/his name with our house address, we have me in his will and his super as beneficiary. All that was given during PMV.

The only new stuff we'll do is adding my name on his BUPA and the house, marriage certificate, wedding photos. What else do I need? I would like to add the whole me changing names and amending my passport and all that (if and when I can find more info on that)

Is there any way for us to get the marriage certificate sooner than having to wait 4 weeks for the dpt to mail it to us? I would want to get it asap to register our marriage at the malaysian embassy in AUS before husband has to leave for his work.

Thanks for reading that lol!

Not sure if Malaysia is any different to any other countries but usually you submit the marriage certificate to the embassy or relevant authority and they change your name.

You will need to submit your official marriage certificate (obviously) and wedding photos. After that it doesn't matter what you submit as in we submitted mainly pre Australia evidence where CG submitted post Australia evidence and both were approved.

When does your PMV expire? The BVA doesn't kick in until the PMV expires. If it doesn't expire for awhile I would wait until you return as you need to be onshore for them to grant the 820 anyway.

You should treat the application as a new one. Even though he previously supplied a will we did it for 820 as well.

The marriage certificate depends on how long it takes to register the marriage. When we got married BDM had system issues and took a month to register the marriage. After they have registered the marriage you can go to BDM personally to get the certificate.

The PMV expires on 24th December 2015.

I made a few calls and got the following answers.

- I can get the marriage certificate in a couple of days after the celebrant has send it through to the BDM. I need to call them ahead to see if they've received it and they will print it out while we wait.

- Change of name HAS to be in Malaysia

Okay, will resubmit some important docs such as will, and super beneficiary plus new stuff like marriage cert, new form 888s, new statements.

Thanks mish

Question -

Once I marry on the PMV and lodge the 820 application..
Will the BVA be in effect immediately OR will the BVA be in effect AFTER the PMV has expired?

I have approx 8 months until the PMV expires when I lodge the 820 application.

Also, my Original Police Check was given to the CO. So when I lodge for the 820, will they request for the original?

Edited. I had just read the Bridging Visa A on the immigration website. Mish is right. Your BVA will come into effect only when your substantive visa expires.

The BVA does not kick in until the PMV expires.

You do not need the police checks coming from a PMV.

Just be aware quite a few forum members are waiting more than 4 months for their PMV to 820.

So I have read. /: Oh well, at least now I know I can apply for the 820 and return to Malaysia to settle my apt stuff while the PMV is still valid and return to Aus and wait for the 820 to be granted.

This page said http://www.australianvisaadvice.com/...arriage-visas/ "Once the second step (the Partner visa application) is submitted the Applicant will be placed on a Bridging visa and can remain in Australia until a decision is made on their Partner visa." Confused me.

Dinkum likes this.
