Certified copies of citizenship from supporting witness???HELP?

I just re-read my confirmation email for my appointment....

and I figured out we need to have the certified copy of the birth certificate or citizenship certificate by the supporting witness!!! (the person who writes the Forms 888)

I never read it before and it's not marked on the checklist...is it correct??
I thought that the fact that someone is witnessing (Police/Judge of peace) would check the stat dec's witness identity (that happened with the judge of peace who checked the passports)

my app is next week !!!!

Yes this is correct - it's stated quite clearly on the Form 888 info:

Evidence of the person’s Australian citizenship or Australian
permanent resident status must be attached to this form (for
example, a certified copy of the birth certificate, Australian
passport or passport containing a permanent visa).

If you can't obtain the certified copies by next week I'd suggest you just let whoever you're meeting with at Immi know that you'll be providing those documents asap - if everything else is in order then it would be a bit mean of them not to accept your application at that point.

The reason is not to check their identity, but to verify that they are an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
