309/100 Visa Application

I have been reading a lot of the posts on here and I haven't seen any stories similar to my own. I thought I might relate my story and see what comments are posted.

I met a Chinese lady who lives in Singapore on a dating web site. We communicated on there for a bit then started using Yahoo Messenger. 7 months later I traveled to Singapore to meet her and I can only say it was pretty much love at first sight. We spent a fabulous week together and during the week we decided to get married.

I returned to Singapore 9 weeks later and we married in a small ceremony at a friends house.

Before traveling to Singapore for the wedding I enlisted the services of a licensed Immigration Agent. While in Singapore and after the wedding we completed all of the forms. When I returned I collected all of the evidence we had of our relationship, receipts, photo's, accommodation and airfares.

The Visa application was couriered to Singapore earlier this month complete with Police COC statement from China birth certificates etc.

I have noticed when reading other posts here that the waiting period can be as little as 5 months for offshore applications. I hope ours is that quick.

At this point we are waiting for a Case Officer to be assigned and the letters requesting medicals and police reports from Singapore to arrive. Very early stages yet but hopefully this wont take to long.

I am 55 and my wife is 48 so its never to late to find love.

10 months. Married for nearly 2 months. Why do you ask?

Most probably because short relationships are scrutinised more (sorry if I am mistaken turboadam). All partner visa applications are obviously scrutinised very closely by immigration, but relationships that are less than 1-2 years stick out more than others Nothing to worry too much about, but you really want to provide as much strong evidence as you can.

Couples that have been in longer relationships can usually provide more solid types of evidence such as wills and beneficiary details (for Super). I don't doubt your relationship but getting married within a week of physically meeting, even after 7 months of contact, is pretty 'radical' .
If you hadn't already applied I would have told you too not apply too early in case you didn't have enough evidence.

Don't forget that you can forward more evidence at any time before the visa is granted, so if you feel that would help then go ahead. All the best

Okay. I see your point. One thing tho, we married about 2 months after we first met. Not the same week. We have plenty of evidence. Receipts for time spent together both times I was there. Photos of us with family and friends at the wedding which I might add my daughter also attended. Receipts for engagement and wedding rings and they weren't cheap either. I am also planning to return to Singapore in January.

We knew that the visa would take a while to process and the spouse visa seemed the logical choice. Getting married was a serious step but it is also proof of a total commitment to each other. This is also why we chose to use an agent. The agent would know exactly what is required and would do a better job than I could in getting the application prepared and submitted.

I hope that clarifies things a bit..

No problem, all the best with the visa grant, you can only sit back and wait now.

Application has been officially acknowledge as of the 10th November. Acknowledgement letter and requests for health and character sent on the same day. Should receive them in the next couple of days.

Delays so far have been due to the fact that we used an agent so any mail from Singapore is sent to Australia. It took over 2 weeks for the acknowledgement letter to get here and it was then couriered back to my wife so she could do the medicals and Singapore police clearance. A total of just over 3 weeks delay. I suppose if you choose to use an agent these types of delays are to be expected. There was also a delay of just over a week as my wife couldn't do the police checks and medicals due to work commitments.
