Update

Today, I was able to get the medicare card in my married name despite having only maiden (former) name in passport. The customer service rep linked my medicare account with immigration app, then changed my name in the system. She requested my marriage certificate, before making the change.

I also have my Australian Driver's Licence now...easy transfer from my US licence.

Next on my list is TFN

You were able to simply transfer your US license to Australian license?

You don't transfer an overseas license to an Australian license. However many states will take the fact that you hold a license from an eligible list of countries as evidence that you meet the requirements to be issued an Australian license without the need for tests or a probationary period.

Oh wow. Thanks for that feedback. My husband needs to do the computer test and re do the drivers test and can then go straight to blacks but if his Brazilian license expose they said he would then need to redo all again. Interesting to know. Thank you.

Just remember if he fails the driving test he goes back to learners he doesn't get another shot of it and he won't be able to drive on his international license.

Oh gosh, they didn't mention that bit, I just assumed he would get as many chances as he wanted until his international drivers license expired.

Thank you for this insight!

In South Australia, transfer is the word used on the website : http://https://www.sa.gov.au/topics/...erseas-licence.

Thanks for the correction. So often I see posters asking how to "transfer" from one visa to another which is typically incorrect since it's a brand new application with (often) a different set of criteria.
