European girl having baby with australian-can I apply for Australian citizenship ?

Hello,
I am slovak 35 old girl having 3 weeks old baby with australian man. We started date a 1 year ago here in Slovakia when my boyfriend was working and after 3 month I got pregnant. My boyfriend is now 6 month back in Australia earning money. My question is, if IŽll apply for australian citizenship for my baby can I apply at the same time for australian citizenship also for me as his mother ? Or it has to be done in 2 steps ? How long it gets the whole process ? What documents do I need for applying me and my child ?

Thank you a lot for help

Terezia

Hi there

Your baby should be able to get australian citizenship automatically. I'm not sure about documentation -- most definately the birth certificate, and your partners birth certificate/passport to prove citizenship. Contact the relevant embassy as they may each have slightly different requirements..

Unfortunately, you are not eligible for citizenship. You will need to apply for a partner visa -- spend 2 years on a temporary partner visa, then 2 years on a permanent visa, then you can apply for citizenship. So it will take 4+ years.

Hi Snowflake,

Was your baby born in Slovakia? if yes, all you need to do is get certified copy of your baby birth certificate showing your name and your Au citizen partner name on it + your partner Au citizen proof (Au passport, birth cert or Au citizen cert) + fee, then lodge in Au Consulate, the processing time is around 2 - 3 weeks.

For other part of question whether you are eligible for Au citizenship. I agree with theskyisblue.

Cheers,
