Looking for some help (contemplating a move to NSW)

Hey guys, I've been reading over some of the advice here regarding the visa's, and I've decided to register and just ask the questions I wish to have answered, any help would be massively appreciated.

OK. So I'm one of those who met a girl online, got talking, eventually met up in person. The girl in question is an Australian citizen, she's from NSW and is currently studying at university. We're about 2 years into our relationship, but as far as proof of it being defacto (ie having met in person) we're not that far in yet.

I am English and currently work in an unskilled job here in England. So, I understand that I can't apply for a worker visa because my trade skill is nowhere near being in demand. So we decided that perhaps me taking a working holiday (417) and living together in that time would be best (but I understand I'd only get one of those as I'd be unlikely to fulfil the criteria for a second visa), then looking on to the de facto partnership visa (820/801).

My questions are these:

The application for 820/801 talks about having spent a year living together. Does this 12 months need to be in a row, or can there be breaks? (I know it talks about temporary breaks, but how temporary IS temporary?). Also, how recent does that need to be to the actual application?

Secondly, the visa talks about the sponsor, ie here, having to support the applicatant, ie me. Would they take whether I currently had a job in Australia in to account, or not? I'm curious how they judge that particular criteria, because I would get myself a job if I was living with her on this partnership visa.

With regard to registering the relationship, I assume (though it doesn't seem to specify) that I actually need to be in Australia to do that? Would that only waive the requirement for having been together 12 months, or does it effect any of the other criteria?

For proof of living together, would living under the same roof but not paying rent/mortgage (say in the case of living in a house that was bought outright, or living at a member of her familieis house) be taken in to consideration? Neither of us own our own properties, so I was curious really if flatsharing with a third party would count toward living together.

Anyway. I'd appreciate any help I can get with these questions, and I might well come back with more as I think of them.
