after visa approved how to get the visa stamped on passport

Hi all, i have submitted my medicals and PCC last week and i believe i soon i shall get an email regarding the issuing of the visa hopefully. My question is that if i get the approval, then will i be asked to send my passport to the Australian embassy/consulate? or i will get it stamped upon first landing in Australia?

My other question is: i know that i have maximum 1 year from the date i do the medicals/PCC to do the first visit to Australia, so i am planning to go for a couple of weeks, but the question is after that, what is the maximum time i can stay outside Australia without affecting my visa (meaning without it being cancelled)?

Thanks
James

Not sure about United Arab Emirates but some countries have visas issued electronically- therefore you will not have to send them your passport. Do you know if your passport has a microchip in it? If so you might not have to send them your passport in order to get your visa. I think it says somewhere on the DIAC website which countries issue visas electronically and which ones require visa stickers...can't remember exactly though.

Thanks, actually dont think my passport has such a chip. Also about the visa it self, is it issued for only 1 year and once i reach Australia for the first landing ill get the 5-years residency visa? or the initial visa that will be stamped will be the 5-years visa?
