Adding British partner as de facto on to 457 visa following working holiday visa

I am looking for some advice. I am a 26 year old British doctor. I have been offered a job in Australia for 12 months commencing in August. I will be coming to Australia on a sponsored 457 temporary visa.

My British partner is coming to Australia with me. We have actually been together for almost 11 years (since we were 15/16) without any breaks but have not actually lived together due to school, different universities and work related issues. For this reason, we have decided against applying for de facto status on my visa as we have been told it will most likely be rejected.

Our plan is for my partner to obtain a working holiday visa for the 12 months of my job. Not ideal but we do not think he would qualify for a skilled/ sponsored visa unfortunately!

My main question is regarding when this 12 months is up - It does not appear difficult for me to prolong my stay in Australia or potentially aim for permanent residency. At this point, can I then apply for my partner to be added as a de facto onshore? - we will be living together when we move over.

Many thanks
