To apply for the 820/801, you need to be in Australia on a temporary visa, such as a visitor visa or other working visa that does not have the "No further stay" condition. And of course have an Australian or PR partner.

The 820 is different to the 309/100 visa route.

Our 100 is submitted (received) so I have just sent off my passport to have it renewed with my married name seeing as I have no use for it at the minute!
I assume it would be best when I receive the new one, to add it in to the documents for our application?

Also, Ive seen conflicting info regarding AFP for the second stage (100)- who got one and front loaded and if not, did you get asked to provide one?
We have both been living here permanently since the 309 visa activation.

Thanks guys

It's been a while since I logged in here but thought I should give an update. I got my 309 visa granted back in Mar 2018 I believe. Submitted my docs for my 100 in March 2020. I got granted my 100 today. Hope everyone is staying safe and well.

It should tell you in the application details page I think. On the immigration website application place.

I uploaded all the standard docs like proof of address, bills, mortgage, leases etc. All the usual stuff and nothing out of the ordinary. Had to provide a police cert which was the main thing that held me up. Everything else was straight forward.

Impressively fast!
Our 100 is submitted (received) but I was unsure and asked above about AFP for the second stage (100).
Did you front load and if not, did you get asked to provide one?

Yes. We uploaded the new married name passport, while waiting for the 801, (onshore 2nd stage.)

The 801 was granted reasonably quickly after that, and all done in the new married name.

If by front load, you mean, attach all the documents without being asked for it, no I screwed up on that front. I just filled in the questions that they asked me to answer and submitted it in late March or so. They emailed me and asked for a police cert. I submitted that last week and then realised that I had the option to submit docs as well. I submitted as many docs as I had (I didn't bother with any docs that I'd already submitted though). That was Thurs or Fri of last week I think. All the days seem the same now so I can't remember :-D
