Chang 752 to Partner Visa: Onshore Temporary and Permanent (Subclasses 820 and 801)

Hi guys my partner's visa 752 expires march 2014. In October we have on year relatiosnhip. Should we apply for the partner this October or we have to wait until the student visa will expire that means march 2014???????? please advice me guys i have a fear that the DIAC will come in suspect and this will be matter of cancelation for both visas. is that true?????
