457 de Facto Self-Employed?

My wife has a 457 visa with condition 8107 (work for her primary employer only in nominated position & depart AUS after 28 days if employment ceases)

My conditions state; "may work or study in Australia unrestricted."

My query is that with unrestricted work conditions, can I procure an ABN and be self-employed as a consultant?

Any assistance would be hugely appreciated, as we don't want to scupper a PR application in the future!

No worries!

I have just been looking into the same thing for myself, and could find next to nothing about it online.
I called the Immigration enquiry line today: 131 881 and spoke to a business officer about my position as a de-facto on my partner's 457 visa. He said there are obligations for the person who has been sponsored, however as the de-facto, the only condition is that you maintain health cover, technically you can work anywhere.
He said that in order to freelance/contract, you must obtain an Australian business number (ABN) from the Australian tax office, call: 137 226
Hope that helps!

Awesome Cass, thanks so much for that. Assumed as much, but wasn't certain. Tried to call Immigration, but was on hold for infinity, so thanks for saving me that wait!
