Register Relationship NSW - Current Turnaround TImes

Hey guys

I spoke to a lady on the phone at BDM the other day who advised me that there is currently and additional waiting period of 4 weeks on top of the 28 day cooling period!!... I was shocked to hear this as It was my understanding that the certificate was sent after the 28 days was up. The problem that I am now facing is that my tourist visa is due to expire in a little over a months time, I was planning on applying for my partner visa with the registration certificate just before my visa expired.... now im a little stumped as to what I should do, apply for the relationship registration regardless and hope for the best? I read in another post of a similar story whereby the applicant requested a letter from BDM stating that they had infact registered their relationship, and that they were in their cooling period..

Would love to know everyones thoughts on this and whether anyones applied in NSW lately and had to wait 2 months!! thanks in advance!

I explained your situation and they said that they wouldn't physically be able to do the paperwork until after the 28 day period. I think my next step is just to go into the office and ask them myself straight from the horses mouth! I'll be applying in wollongong so i'll see what they have to say!

If not i may have to submit my application without the certificate and just use a letter of confirmation from the BDM to say that its processing...not sure if Immi will accept this or not, I asked them but you know what they are like - will not tell you anything!!

How long ago did you apply for the relationship registration Emily? Wonder if it could be a case that there has been a huge rush of applications in the last month or so...who knows

i applied on 3/02/12 and officer showed me which date i can pick it up and it was issued on 2/03/12 but i went to pick it up one day early on 1/03/12 it was ready and on the certificate says issues in that day, At first i thought like that too 28 day on top of that but actually it was not , i would suggest you to come apply in person at city office at central station and if you hurry tell the officer that you prefer to pick it up, you would be fine

We did that, and they were very nice, we got the certificate 29 days later, by mail.
wenא to Sydney NSW, this was like 7 munths ago, and when I called them before we went in, they told me the same thing about the 4 weeks + 28 days. strange, I think this means the time it takes is a totall of 4 weeks, 28 first days are "cool off" and the rest of the time is a time frame in wich the certificate will be ready.
Good luck!

Hi lili2! I applied in person at the BDM in Sydney near Central, at the end of March this year and received the certificate around 29-30 days after that. I haven't heard anything about having to wait an additional 4 weeks at all.

thanks for all your feedback guys!! this feels me with a lot more confidence than i did have initially about it all. I contacted BDM again today and they told me the same thing regarding the 4 week additional turnaround time!! I've decided to go first thing to the office tomorrow and submit my form in person and see what I get told there IN office! Fingers crossed!!!
