After 820 (Temporary Partner Visa) has been granted can I work overseas?

Hello all,

Firstly apologies for the ambiguity of the title.

I am an Australian Citizen, and have sponsored my boyfriend for a De Facto Visa (which was lodged in June 2015).

My question is: Once he is granted the Temporary Partner Visa, am I allowed to work overseas temporarily? I called Immigration and they said once he is granted the Temporary Partner Visa, whatever happens to our relationship is of no concern to them, and will not affect the decision on his Permanent Partner Visa (801). He will need to stay in Australia, but I am free to leave if desired.

Is this correct?

Sounds like DIBP has given some shockingly bad information which, unfortunately, happens too often. When your partner is ready to submit evidence for the 801 PR stage of his visa, he needs to provide evidence that you two are still in an ongoing, genuine relationship. So whatever happens in your relationship is critical to the decision of his 801 visa.

However, that doesn't mean you can't work overseas. You'd need to provide evidence of how you've maintained your relationship during this separation, e.g. financial commitments, relationship, contact, etc. It's more difficult than if you were still living under the same roof, but it can be done.
