Qualification Verifcation

My Husband is a HGV Mechanic and we are looking at ways to emigrate to Australia.

We have looked at the Skills Migration but it says you need to get qualifications assessed. From what I can see this has a cost of roughly $2,000. Does anyone know if this is correct?

We really want to move but I am worried that this is expensive and they could then turn round and say your qualifications are not relevant and its been a waste of alot of money.

Any help/advice really appreciated

Thanks
