unemployed sponsor...any advice please?

hi there! i'm a newy on this forum...just need help or advice regarding my situation

i'm an australian citizen, 58 yrs old and presently living outside australia. i'm living here in the philippines for 10 yrs now, and have met my defacto/wife here in 2002. we have been living together now for 9 yrs and planning to get married in hongkong early next year.

i'm planning to sponsor my wife for a partner visa for us to migrate to australia. i'm just curious of some potential problems that we may encounter in applying for a partner visa, because of the fact that we are both living here in the philippines and i dont have a job in australia. we intend to sell all our properties (all our assets) here and move back to australia. Do you think that can justify our financial capability to support my wife? or do we still need AOS from a relative back in australia?

i"m really very curious on this specific matter, so please, if anybody can give me an advice or opinion on this matter, will be greatly appreciated.

thank you so much and have a nice day

Because you're an Australian citizen (and not a permanent resident), you don't have to live in Australia in order to sponsor your wife. What counts is the evidence, you need to have solid evidence in all four categories (check partner migration booklet: http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/booklets/books1.htm/).

About you not having a job: it's probably good to address this matter in your statements; perhaps write about what your plans are, how do you plan to support yourselves, how do you plan to pay rent and food and the bills, will you work, will your wife work etc...

All the best!!

I forgot to mention that since the 1st of January 2012 AOS is no longer needed for partner visas.

No worries, you're welcome. This forum has some great threads about how to prepare the partner visa application, whenever in doubt, just ask a question.

I hope somebody else will reply to this thread as well, the more opinions you get, the better (especially if somebody was in a similar situation).

Hi, i am in the same position, live in the UK with my girlfriend and want to move back to Australia to live.

We would both have to quit our jobs here to move. So how can I sponsor her? My parents would let us stay with them until we find work and we will have some savings to pay for food etc. Do they need to make this offer formal in anyway?

I feel the partner visa forms are not really relivent to people who apply off shore, it asks you for details about your house etc, as if you are going to have one when you have been living out of Australia for years
