HI everyone!

Would like to ask advise from anyone who has lodged application to ACS before.

I'm planning to submit an application for qualifications assessment next month for ANZSCO Code 261313 Software Engineer.
I hold a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science and as of writing, I've worked a total of 10 years in different companies and held different positions (Developer/Programmer/Software Engineer).

As I understand from ACS' guidelines, at least 2 years experience related to the skill is required if you are ICT Major. Is it enough if I just submit 1 employer reference which is from my current employer for 5+ years? I've been to a lot of consulting companies in the past and it wouldn't be easy to get the reference from all of them.

Appreciate any advise or input. Thanks in advance!

Hi abc27,

I am also going to lodge application to ACS by nxt week for skill assessment.Iam also a Software engineer with 5 years of experiance. As an advice i can tell you that, you have to upload all your Exp.certificate in pdf formats. Since your experience and qualification is accessed by ACS as per instruction given by Aus.immigrn dept. u will get points based on your experience r8? During EOI submission u will have to provide Exp. details as well as assessing authority details. So i think ur qualification an exp. details will be cross checked with ACS.

In which visa category are you trying ? Through agency or self?

Hi sujithmon!

You are right! After doing more research in the forums, I realized it's better to include all relevant work experience as it may also affect the result of ACS. Submitting complete 10years employment reference is way better than submitting just 5 years. In addition, It may also add more points for me from employers who might be looking at my qualifications if they see that I've been working as a software engineer for 10 years. I'm doing this on my own, not through an agent as that costs much and I have friends already in Aus who give me advice. I'm still in the process of getting the employment references from all 5 companies I've been to. Whew! I target to finish this by Oct. while working in parallel on my IELTS. Good luck on your application. Let me know how it turns out :)

With my experience with ACS, I would suggest you to include all and let ACS decide which ones closely match the occupational code. There are chances that you might get addl points if 10 yrs of your experience are validated which puts you in a better ranking in skillselect.. I got 3 yrs of my exp knocked off stating its irrelevant to the occupational code applied for..

Thanks voxtro for joining in the thread and sharing your experience! Appreciate it as it would help us newbies in lodging our application to ACS.

Have you received your assessment from ACS? I have a question which I haven't gotten an exact answer from the forums. When ACS gives the assessment, how does the result exactly look like? Do they put there something like 'suitable' or 'suitable with xxx years experience'? Please enlighten us :)

Thanks in advance for any input. :)

Hi,

I am also applying for Skills Assessment for Software Engineer on my own.

Could someone please tell me what are the steps for the visa application? As per my understanding it goes as follows:
1) Skills Assessment
2) IELTS
3) EOI
4) Visa Application

Also, while filing the Skills Assessment, I found that Work Exp. letter format is very detailed in their website. My Work Exp. letters only mention Dates and Designation. Also, how to mention the work exp. for the current company?

Edited: Boboa - the purpose of these forums is that everyone benefits of discussion here. Please do not request information to be emailed. Rather post it here

Thanks,
Ashish

Hi Ashish,

You are right in the process except that 1&2 can be interchanged. You can do first either the IELTS or ACS. One is not a pre-requisite of the other.

As for the format, again, I suggest you request a new certificate from your previous employers. Come to think of it, without the roles/responsibilities, how will ACS know that you did software engineering-related jobs? What will be their basis?

I am currently requesting certificates from my 4 previous employers and I tell you, it's not an easy task. My requests are put on low priority now as I'm no longer connected with them. But it's okay, I know they will respond to it eventually as I have indicated in my request that I'm applying for an Australian visa. Small steps each day, this will be finished soon. :)

Hi abc27 and all other folks,

As you say that you are BSc Computer Science Graduate, did you submitted all three year's marksheet and Graduation Certificate ?? Apart from that did you submitted any other educational certificate ??

For BSc Computer Science degree, ACS will consider for Group A or Group B ? any idea ?

Also, from where did you made certified copy of originals ?

Kind Regards,
Pranay
