Partner Visa - is it legal to work on a bridging visa

Hello,

Like many others, I am confused as to the status of a partner who has applied for a partner visa - I am Australia, hoping to get my French partner to work in Australia -
If he applies from Australia whilst on a tourist visa, will he be unable to work until he gets granted the temporary partner visa (that is what i understood reading through the complex description on immigration website).
Any help or experience would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Generally he will be granted a Bridging Visa A once he has applied. This visa comes with unlimited work rights, so he can work, however it wont become active until his Tourist Via has ended.

For Instance if you apply of the 1st April, he will be granted a BVA then, but if his Tourist visa doesn't end until 15th May, he can't work until 16th May, the Date his Bridging visa starts.
