801 While temporarily / permanently living abroad

Currently on a Bridging Visa A waiting on my 820 which I hope should come through any day (they asked for AFP check last week)

Work has asked me to move to NZ within 6 months and fly back to AUS a few times a month when needed. For time split most months it will be about 75% of my time in NZ but could be 50/50 some months and this will wind down over the next few years to a permanent position in NZ.

During this time I will still have my house rental in AUS, a temp work visa isn't an issue until my 801 is granted.

My main concern is losing / not eligible for my 801 which is around 8 months away. I couldn't find any info about if I need to spent X amount of time in AUS while on a 820 to maintain eligibility for the 801, a work colleague said that once I have a 820 I can live anywhere and get my 801 but I couldn't find anything to back this up.

It is important I get my 801 as I will need to work off and on in Australia over the next 2-3 years.

Hope this makes sense. Thanks.

You can be anywhere in the world when the 801 is granted. However DIBP have been asking people living overseas their intensions to reside in Australia.

Your partner will move to NZ with you right? Because that will be what DIBP are concerned about.
