Job on temp visa

Hi guys,

I see some people concern about getting job on temp partner visa and i would like to share my own experience. I hold a bachelor degree from Thailand in business administration and had 5 years working experience in my home country. My previous experience was purely office jobs for example: sales, EA... i got my first job here after 2 months i arrived. I sent out about 500 applications and got about 10 replies. Interviewed a few and got the first job as an admin for a small business. It was a very bad company to work for so i left after 3 months. It then took me another round of job seeking for 2 months and i finally landed on my 2nd job as an office admin until now. I think it is not just purely luck but also your determination, patient and know what you look for would match your profile. Australia is a great country and i dont feel any sort of discrimination just because of your visa status. Of course some jobs are picky and just select PR or citizen but you would know and do not apply for those. Regarding small business be very careful and research the modern awards of each industry/state to make sure you are treated fairly and legally. Hope it makes sense and good luck to all of us who wish to make Australia their new home.

You made my day! My husband is having enormous problems finding a job and my attitude is that it is a numbers game, the more applications you send out, the better the chance of getting a job. Think it also depends on where you live, we're in the Hunter Valley NSW where the is a lot of unemployment.

But again, I am really happy that you managed to get a job relatively quick!

I think it depends on occupation too. I know of someone around hunter valley region too. He had trouble getting a job there and moved to Melbourne after a year and still couldn't find a job either. He is currently doing a course to help get a job.

Exactly Mish, the occupation is a huge barrier particularly for my husband. His actual role definition is murky too, ranging from Environmental Scientist to Conservation Biologist the vast majority of the jobs advertised under those headings require a TAFE Cert III or IV at most. Unfortunately the local university is a no go zone at the moment because of it's internal financial constraints. We know he will get a job once the 801 is through, as most of what he is qualified for is state government, so at the moment he's doing a Cert IV TAE, still recovering from the virus and pretending he's still too sick to paint!
